Fall Fashion Guide for College Students

By Haylie May

Now that the weather is finally cooling down, we can finally break away from the shorts, tank top, and sandals look that we’ve all been rocking for the last four months. It’s finally sweater weather!

Waking up late and rushing to throw on some clothes so that I’m on time for class is something that happens a little too often. The nice thing about fall is how easy it is to pick out an outfit. Here are a few staple fall outfits that will work on any day this fall:

This casual look is perfect for any day you wake up super late or tired, and is really easy to throw on. The awesome thing about this outfit is that you don’t need to worry about everything matching. As long as you have a black pair of leggings it doesn’t really matter which sweatshirt or shoes you wear. Since it hasn’t quite started snowing yet, you can still manage to wear your favorite tennis shoes without worrying about the wet snow and salt on the sidewalks ruining them.

The flannel t-shirt, ripped jeans, and boots look

This outfit is the classic fall outfit. Perfect for that photoshoot that is inevitable when you head out to your nearest cider mill or pumpkin patch, this outfit is the embodiment of fall. Finding the perfect, soft flannel, that will be comfy enough to nap in is essential. Pairing your flannel of choice, because let’s be honest, everyone has at least two, with a solid colored t-shirt and your favorite jeans is the move on any given day.

The sweater, jeans, and booties look

This outfit is the best for when you want to be comfortable, but also want to look nice for that extra self-confidence boost. The sweater will give the impression that you tried harder to pick out your outfit than you actually did, prepare to receive compliments.

For the mornings that you wake up with a little extra time, you can go for this option. This outfit requires a little more time to plan it because it can be a little harder to match all of the pieces. When I have the time, I love to pick out the perfect t-shirt, to match my army green fall jacket, which is a fall staple. This outfit is great for going out to brunch on the weekend, or for when it’s starting to get a little chillier.

Living in Michigan, the weather is always pretty unpredictable. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a weather change in the middle of fall, and it’s snowing one day and high 70’s the next. This look consists of a t-shirt, jeans, and slip on shoes because you’re too annoyed with the weather to try to look nice.

*Bonus points if you reuse clothing from previous years or buy clothes at a thrift shop because it helps save the environment*
