95%

This week I decided to write a short post after reflecting a little bit on the places that provide somewhere we feel secure and can be unapologetically ourselves.

Life is loud and demanding. I think it’s important to find that quiet where you can come back to yourself.

For me that place is the Bailey Greenhouse and Urban Farm.

As someone who greatly enjoys the Earth and outdoors, a few hours a week of working with the soil and growing plants settles the storm of worry and stress I often get at the end of the day. It also builds confidence and increases the security I have within myself. With the coming winter limiting what work can be done in the greenhouse, I’ve noticed without that outlet to let go of the everyday stresses and worries of life, I’ve been bringing them home with me. But that’s okay. As an Uber driver once told me, “most things in life are 95% good and 5% bad, it’s just a matter of remembering to look for the good instead of focusing on that little bit of bad.” The good thing about winter is that it will provide a chance for me to focus on improving my greenhouse skills for when spring comes.

So in conclusion, it’s important to have a space where you feel comfortable, can build yourself as a person, can let go, and can simply be. As for where this space is will vary from person to person but essentially no matter where, it’s good to identify it and if you’re still looking, don’t lose hope: remember to find the good and hold on to that.
