Galentine’s Day

By Carson Yenchar

Ah, Valentine’s Day. The one day to celebrate with your significant other by showering them with chocolate and flowers. A day where one shows their devotion and appreciation through poorly written poetry or cheesy songs about hearts and giggles. If you’re like me, and you’re single and not quite ready to mingle, you can instead celebrate a day filled with excitement and adventure. The wonderful holiday of Galentine’s Day, celebrated a day before Valentine’s Day.

Thanks to Amy Poehler, from “Parks and Recreation,” the unofficial holiday was made purely for ladies celebrating ladies. It is a time to spend with your gals and to show them how much they truly mean to you. For example, here are some ideas for a successful Galentine’s Day:

  • Gift exchanges: diamond rings are highly recommended, but considering you’re a college student with little expenses, socks will work just as well.
  • The good ol’ fashioned rom com: Ah, the perfect mixture of comedy and romance in every sugar-filled bite. Bring it on!
  • Create a playlist: Music is a necessity in everyday life. Galentine’s Day is the perfect time to play all those tunes (including, but not limited to Beyonce, Whitney Houston, P!nk, etc.)
  • EAT: I mean, this is self explanatory.
  • Just hang out: No need to go all extravagant and fancy. Just chill in your pajamas, eat ice cream, and watch Netflix!

I hope these ideas help with the planning of your own Galentine’s Day, because being with your friends and celebrating them is just as important as celebrating with just your significant other. Especially if it was your friend who introduced you to your lover in the first place! So remember, all you gorgeous gals, take a day and celebrate! Don’t forget to let loose and have fun!
